Drupal AI is moving from experimental functionality to a cohesive, strategy-driven ecosystem. Discover the roadmap for 2026, explore how the new AI Starterkit built on Drupal CMS simplifies production-ready AI, and learn how we are organizing a massive community effort to build world class AI functionality.
This session is designed for Drupal developers and architects. While no expertise is required, a foundational understanding of Drupal site-building and a general awareness of how Large Language Models (LLMs) function will be beneficial.
The Drupal AI initiative has entered a new phase phase where strategy has moved to implementation. In this session, we will move beyond the "AI hype" to discuss the structured approach we are taking to make Drupal the the leading "AI-Powered Open-Source CMS".
- First, we will give a high-level overview of our strategic north star, focusing on the core pillars of Context, Governance, and Observability. We’ll explore why Drupal is uniquely positioned to solve the "generic AI" problem by grounding models in organizational knowledge and feedback loops.
- From there, we will introduce the Drupal AI Starterkit based on Drupal CMS, treating it as a production-ready reference implementation. Using specific examples from our development cycle, I will show how we are approaching features like intent-based semantic discovery, automated editorial governance, and agentic workflows that can build pages from simple natural language descriptions.
- We will then provide a status update on what has already been stabilized and what will be implemented next. We will look at the current "frontier" of our development and where the focus is shifting as we move toward the next major releases.
- We will also discuss how this entire ecosystem connects with Drupal CMS and how we are packaging these AI capabilities into "recipes" so that the power of the initiative-backed development is accessible to every user out of the box.
- We will also give insights into our organizational structure to show how over 25 agencies and specialized UX and QA teams are working in sync. You’ll see how we ensure that every AI feature meets enterprise standards for reliability and usability before it ever reaches the community.
- Finally, the session will conclude with a clear roadmap for your own participation. I will outline the specific ways you can get involved in the initiative, from code contributions to testing, and show you exactly how to join the sprints that are shaping the future of Drupal.
Participants will learn about
- The long-term roadmap for Drupal as an AI-Powered CMS.
- Practical architectural patterns found in the AI Starterkit.
- Current progress on main features developed by the Drupal AI initative.
- Effective ways to contribute to the initiative's specialized sprints and QA workflows.
